When the Minehead camp opened in 1962, an outdoor heated pool was situated between the Regency and Princess Buildings. In 1967, a monorail track was added, looping around the Regency and Princess Buildings, and crossing over above the outdoor pool, in a figure of eight shape (click here to see a postcard showing the monorails crossing over the original outdoor heated pool). By 1984, it was decided to replace the outdoor pool with a funpool, and these photos show that work taking place (click here to see a number of photos showing the completed funpool). However, by 1999, both the funpool and monorail were removed in order to allow the Skyline Pavilion to be built. The Skyline connected the former Regency, Princess and Gaiety Buildings, with the Skyline Cafe and Stage taking the space previously occupied by the funpool (click here to see a photo showing the Skyline Cafe in 1999). The Skyline Cafe and Stage were in turn removed in 2007, making a much clearer Skyline, capable of hosting large arena concerts (click here to see a photo showing the same area in 2008). The area has therefore seen a large number of changes over the years, but remains a central part of Butlins Minehead.
